Claude
Overview
Connect Claude Desktop or the online claude.ai to your SolarAssistant account to ask questions in plain language. Claude reads your sites, live metrics, settings, events and shop orders through the SolarAssistant MCP connector, and can even build your solar business customer portal.
You sign in with your SolarAssistant account. There is no API token to create and nothing to install. Claude only sees the sites your account can already see. See bypassing the cloud if you want your AI to interact with your site directly.
Step 1 - Add a custom connector
In a chat, click the + next to the message box. Select Connectors, then Add connector, then Add custom connector.

You can also get there from Settings under Connectors.
Step 2 - Enter the SolarAssistant address
Enter SolarAssistant as the name and the following as the address:
https://solar-assistant.io/mcpThen click Continue.

Step 3 - Choose to sign in
Under Authentication, select Sign in now. Claude marks No sign-in as detected, but SolarAssistant needs you to sign in before Claude can see your sites.

Scroll down to OAuth client and select Register automatically, then click Add.
Step 4 - Allow access
Sign in to SolarAssistant if you are not signed in already. Review what Claude is asking for and click Allow access. All of the access is read only.

You are returned to Claude and the connector is ready to use.
Step 5 - Ask Claude about your system
Open the + menu and select Connectors to check that SolarAssistant is switched on.

Then ask a question. Some examples:
Find out what went wrong
"My inverter just switched to grid, check my settings and figure out why that happened."
Save more on grid energy
"Look at how my system has been running and tell me if there are inverter settings you would change to use less grid energy."
Build your own customer portal
"Help me customize a custom solar monitoring portal for my business."
Bypass the cloud
The connector above sends every request through the SolarAssistant cloud, which relays it to your site. For faster answers in Claude Desktop, install the SolarAssistant Claude Desktop extension instead. It runs on your computer and talks to your SolarAssistant unit directly over your local network when it is reachable. When it is not, it uses your site's regional proxy, and only then the cloud.
The extension uses an API token rather than a sign-in. Generate one on your user details page and follow the installation steps on the GitHub page.
If you use another AI tool such as Claude Code or Cursor, the sacli command-line tool offers the same direct connection. See the sacli MCP guide for how to set it up:
